📍 Sélestat · Bas-Rhin (67)

A major centre of humanism in the Renaissance, Sélestat is home to the Humanist Library, listed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World register. Among its treasures is a document from 1521 presented as the oldest written mention of the Christmas tree.

The town has two major churches – Romanesque Sainte-Foy and Gothic Saint-Georges – as well as remains of Vauban’s fortifications. It is also a gateway to the Haut-Koenigsbourg.
