A former free town and place of sanctuary in the Middle Ages, Bergheim has preserved its 14th-century walls, towers and upper gate. Inside, Renaissance houses stand alongside a lime tree several centuries old.
A path follows the ramparts through the vineyards. The Maison des Sorcières recalls a darker chapter of local history: the witch trials held here.

Bergheim is about 3 km from Ribeauvillé; allow time to walk the full circuit of the walls.
