A former free city of the Holy Roman Empire, Obernai has kept a rich medieval and Renaissance heritage: the belfry (Kapellturm), the six-bucket well and the old corn exchange frame the Place du Marché.
Tradition holds that Obernai is the birthplace of Saint Odile, patron saint of Alsace. Surrounded by vineyards, the town is a popular stop on the Wine Route and for its Christmas market.
💡 Good to know
Obernai station, on the Strasbourg–Sélestat line, is about five minutes’ walk from the centre.
