Moderate

From September, the Vosges forests — a mix of fir, beech and oak — offer porcini, chanterelles, black trumpets and many more. The best spots are on damp slopes, valley bottoms and riverbanks, often veiled in morning mist. Family picking is tolerated up to 5 litres per person in the Hautes-Vosges; beyond that a fine applies, and picking is forbidden in private woods without permission.
